Before the puzzle was called ‘Crossword’ it had another name, ‘Word-Cross’! Arthur Wynne, the crossword’s inventor called his new-fangled brain teaser ‘Word-Cross Puzzle’ but the name change came about because of a simple typesetting error. Whoops. Well, we think ‘Crossword’ has a certain ring to it!
