Three different kinds of cyclopes appear in Greek mythology, but the best-known are the ones described by Homer: savage one-eyed giants who threatened to eat Odysseus when he made landfall on their remote island. Odysseus tricked and blinded their leader, Polyphemus. These cyclopes were the sons of Poseidon, the god of the sea.
