Throughout Chinese history, phoenix-like birds known as Fenghuang have been worshipped by the populace. Said to have originated within the sun, the body of the creature symbolizes the celestial bodies: the head represents the sky, the eyes the sun, the back is the moon, the wings are the wind, the feet the earth and the tail represents the planets. The creatures are often depicted attacking evil creatures, mainly serpents, and only appear in areas that are blessed with happiness, peace and prosperity.
