Memory is essential for constructing our personal identities. The part of our brain known as the hippocampus is responsible for consolidating information for us to store with relative ease. Unfortunately, when this part of the brain becomes damaged, our memory systems are corrupted, and the tragic result can be having one form of amnesia.
