The Sun is 4.5 billion years old and is expected to continue converting hydrogen to helium until its fuel runs out in another 5-7 billion years. When the Sun runs out of energy it will grow larger and larger, first swallowing up Mercury, then Venus, and eventually engulfing the Earth. How tragically spectacular.
