When he became unemployed, Alfred Mosher Butts decided to design a board game based on the principles of crossword puzzles. The game turned out to be none other than the wildly popular Scrabble, and was released in 1938! Not only was Butts an accomplished game designer, he was also an artist. Six of his drawings were acquired by the MOMA!
