The word “cactus” originates from the Greek name “Kaktos”. In Spanish it means artichoke or “prickly plant”. They save their water by only opening their stomata at night. Plants in general open their stomata during the day which allows them to take in gas and exhale oxygen which is essential for photosynthesis.
